Otherwise known as Sweet Scented Geranium or Pelargonium graveoleus by scientists, the Rose Geranium plant is a multi-branched shrub, about 1.5metres in height, native to Cape & Northern Provinces of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The flowers of this plant vary from pale pink to almost white in their colour, flowering mostly between August and January. The scents from the leaves are usually strong and sometimes can vary depending on the derivative plants and there are some that can also come across as having no scents at all.
The Rose Geranium plant has been around for a long time and it is widely used in the perfume industry. The rose geranium oil, obtained from the steam distillation of the plant flowers, leaves and stalks is sometimes used in the cosmetics industry as a supplement to the very expensive rose absolute oil. Chemical analysis of the Rose Geranium oil ha indicated that its major constituents; citronellol, nerol, and geraniol are the similar to those in the Rose absolute oil.
The rose geranium is considered a great balancer of hormones, moods and skin. For the purpose of this write up, let us consider some of uses for the rose geranium oil.
Aromatherapy: Rose geranium oil is useful in calming anxiety and other nervous conditions. Users have found it helpful in uplifting mood in cases of depression and mood swings. Reports have shown that Rose Geranium oil creates a positive energy when used in diffusers in combination with citrus oils like bergamot and sweet orange oil.
Skin Care: Rose geranium oil is suitable for use on all skin types. It sooths and balances the skin when used in appropriate concentrations. It can also be used in the balancing of Sebum production, which makes it especially useful in products formulated for oily skin, acne prone skin or imbalanced skin conditions.
Other Uses
The Rose geranium oil is also sometimes used as an insect repellent. Please note that it works best when combines with oils like citronella and lemon grass.
It is also worth noting that when used in appropriate concentrations and diluted with suitable carrier oils, the Rose geranium oil is safe for use in pregnancy.
**Never apply essential oils directly to your skin. Always dilute them in carrier oils.

Using a calibrated weighing scale, measure all ingredients; oils & waxes in one beaker and the water ingredients in another beaker
Place each beaker into separate water bath with boiling water on the hot plate hob until the oils and waxes have all melted and the content of both beakers are the same temperature.
Pour the oils into the water containing beaker and mix vigorously using the stirring rod for the next 3-5 minutes in order to prevent he mixture from separating. Continue mixing the content until the temperature romps below 30 degree Celsius. If it helps, you van place the beaker into a cold water bath to help speed up the cooling down.
